Logical fallacies: Seven ways to spot a bad argument (bbc.com)
1 point by mikestew on July 10, 2024 | hide | past | favorite | 1 comment

The seven logical fallacies from the posted BBC article are, alphabetically: Ad hominem, Appeal to authority, Appeal to ignorance, False dichotomy, Slippery slope, Strawman, Whataboutism (or Whataboutery)

Maybe it's just me, but I keep seeing more references to specific logical fallacies, and many reference lists are big but incomplete. So, at [0], I recently started making a "complete" list of logical fallacies and cognitive biases for quick-reference purposes.

Thanks to the OP's BBC article, the following additions were made to [0]:

  - Strawman added as AKA of Straw man
  - Whataboutery added as AKA of Whataboutism
(If you have more fallacy or bias suggestions for [0], there is a feedback form at the bottom; it's a WIP still and only ~50% complete, but early feedback is more than welcome.)
