You Can Spend a Year on a Cruise Ship for Less Than Rent in Many Cities (thestreet.com)

Many of us who live in cities do so because of our employment. The commute from a cruise ship would cost a lot in time and money, I imagine.

Cruise ships are also all-inclusive, in that they provide meals + entertainment + basic medical care. That's hard to beat.

Plus there are plenty of potentially interesting people to talk to...and shrimp. Lots of shrimp.

So much shrimp. mouth waters

If it weren’t for the fact being sequestered into a limited space with that many random people would make me lose my mind I would consider it.

Also look at the history of disappearing people on cruiseships:

This is a fiction novel.

Actually based on real disappearances. Of course the story has to be dramatised for the book ,but the stuff that actually goes on on cruise ships can be far worse than the book

I'd rather drive an RV or camper-van. Much more freedom and fun things to do.

Your fuel costs will be way higher that way because cruise ships burn bunker fuel.

If they ever force cruise ships to clean up their act the costs should normalize a bit

An overwhelming majority of full-time RVers don't drive that much. When your RV is your house (and not just a way to vacation), there is no rush. Long haul drives are draining, and you pass by tons of interesting places. Among the full-time RVers I know, slow travel is the norm. You spend more time in the places you particularly enjoy, and mosey toward a different place or climate when you decide the time is right.

Source: I semi-retired in my early-20s and spent six years full-time RVing.

Pretty tough to take that to another continent, however.

Most continents I've seen have plenty of land to explore. Some of them are even connected to each other!

You should be able to knock out at least two continents no matter where you are :)

Australia? Heck, even North and South America are separated by the Darien Gap.
